Abortion
Today's Democrat leaders treat Pro-Life Americans with disdain, but The Party Of Choice enjoys a free and open discussion on the issue. There are Pro-Life Conservatives. There are Pro-Choice Conservatives. The fact is, all of them favor choice, but they simply disagree on whether the fetus is a human life.
For those believing the fetus is a human life, abortion is wrong because it denies this human life the choice of whether to live. It also removes the consequences of choices already made by two people who chose to have sex (this of course doesn't include rape, where personal choice is violated). For those believing the fetus is not a human life until it reaches certain levels of viability, the only choice remaining is that of the woman carrying the fetus.
So, both sides embrace choice, and in The Party Of Choice, the discussion is rightly focused on the true questions: "Is this a human life?" and "When?"
For the record, I am strongly Pro-Life, but would vote for many Pro-Choice Conservatives. Why is this? It's because I support those who share our central vision, not every conclusion. We Conservatives are individuals, remember? For us, the debate centers honestly around whether the fetus is a human life, because we all value choice.
This isn't the case with the CDL (Current Democrat Leadership), who only discuss the rights of women, without even addressing whether someone else is involved. Indeed, Pro-Choice Democrat Leaders don't elevate choice, but rather seek to eliminate consequences from choices already made in order to secure more votes. Choice-Reward-Consequence has no place in their discussion, since people wishing to erase consequences can vote, but the unborn can't. It's that simple.
So, equating Pro-Choice Conservatives with the CDL is a major mistake. Conservatives unite around choice, but can freely discuss when it is applicable. The CDL (Current Democrat Leadership), on the other hand, only unites around control and convenience. In CDL circles, any dialogue that even considers rights for the unborn is silenced.
No contest.
